Hi! I’m Cate. Welcome to my Independent Study – ‘Explorations in Portraiture’ website!!
A bit about me:
I am currently a Senior at Durham Academy Upper School. My interests include: outdoor education, cross country, basketball, lacrosse, Lincoln Douglas debate, horsepacking and piano.
Although I’ve always liked art, (the image to the left is the gallery I have collected) I never thought that I could produce it. In fact, the only reason I began is because I was required to take an art credit my junior year in order to graduate. Immediately, I had a natural affinity for the process. I became lost in my work (and true crime podcasts- https://www.rottenmangopodcast.com) class after class.
Some important projects in this class that defined my interests were 1. My charcoal self portrait and 2. My first painting.
I decided that this year, I would explore portraiture and painting further with The Elements Project. Throughout the year, I will design and create a final project the isolates and explores one of the specific elements of art. My first element project will focus on color.
